Black Walnut Powder

Botanical name: (Juglans nigra)

Also Known As: Black walnut

According to legend, when the gods walked upon the earth, they lived on walnuts; hence the name ?Juglans ?Jupiter's nut. The tree has been cultivated in Europe since Roman times for its nuts; these yield an important oil containing essential fatty acids, such as alfa—linolenic, that are vital for healthy cell function and prostaglandin development.

Black walnut bark helps relieve constipation and is useful against fungal and parasitic infections. It is used to expel, rather than kill, worms during the normal course of laxative—induced cleansing of the body. It may also help to eliminate warts, which growths are caused by viruses.

The hull powder is excellent in facial masks for deeply cleansing the skin, and is often taken internally as a remedy for intestinal parasites. It can be applied as a natural insecticide. The Comanche made a paste of the leaves and husk of the fruit to treat ringworm. Black walnut was also used by the Appalachian, Cherokee, Iroquois, and Rappahannock as a treatment for fungal infections of feet and hands, for hemorrhoids and as an insecticide. Black walnut produces the famous walnut wood of commerce, as well as the familiar edible nuts. Treats mammal bites.

Black walnut powder is also useful for natural coloring hair, as a non permanent dye. It imparts a dark brown color.
