Blue Malva Flowers
Botanical Name — Malva sylvestris
Also Known As — common mallow, Hollyhock Flower, Malva, Malva Flower, Rose Mallow
The blue mallow is robust plant of prairies and pastures growing 3 to 4 feet high and bearing bluish—purple blossoms. People however, have used blue malva leaves and flowers as thickening agents for soups and stews for hundreds of years. Traditionally used as a tea sweetened with honey; also used in herbal teas.
The natural ingredients in blue malva flowers help soothe sore throats, coughs, and colds. A salve or poultice from these flowers can be used to disinfect wounds because the flowers can work as a disinfectant and antiseptic. A complex in the herb known as may have immune—stimulant properties.
